Cornwall is the part of the world I call home. I was born into a county with a rich history of art and a unique light. Popping into existence I soon started to scribble. In fact I can’t remember a time I didn’t create art in one form or another. Most of what I paint is instinctive, but of course having a feel for what looks right is not the whole story. My biggest artistic influence was my art teacher, Zoe, an accomplished artist in her own right, specializing in fine botanical paintings of plants. The techniques she taught me gave me much needed focus and confidence in my abilities. My early work was exclusively watercolour, and though I loved painting, something wasn’t quite right. The way I mixed my colours was not really very watercoloury and I found the wait for over wet areas to dry frustrating. Then I discovered acrylic paint and It very quickly became my favourite medium. I love the brightness it imbues and it really suits my style. With only one or two exceptions, I try my best to use a pallet of only three colours. Using Magenta, Cyan and Yellow, with a little help from black and white, I find I can mix virtually any colour I need. Because all the colours come from this small pallet everything ultimately works well together. I also try not to stick exclusively to one subject. I feel it is a good thing to have more than one string to my bow, or brush in my jar.Much of my artwork is commissioned, but from time to time pieces are available to purchase, so subscribe to my RidleyGiles on WhatsApp group and keep an eye on those offers. If you miss the boat on those offers all is not lost. Original art is available via my RidleyGiles on SumUp store.Prints of my artwork are available via my RidleyGiles on Rebubble store.I hope you enjoy my growing gallary as much as I enjoy creating it.
